Dallas is a city that is rapidly expanding with a growing labor market as well as a diverse population. The city of Dallas has an estimated two million residents making it the ninth largest city in the United States and the third largest city in Texas. The Dallas Metropolitan Area is the tenth largest in the United States. Dallas also has a young labor market with a median age of 32.1 years old. The population of Dallas is comprised of 50.8% Caucasian, 25.9% African American, 2.7% Asian and 35.5% Hispanic.

The city of Dallas is well known for its pro business attitude. The December 1999 issue of Fortune Magazine named Dallas the overall best city for business in North America. One reason that Dallas is so appealing for residents and businesses is that there is no personal or corporate income tax and no state property tax in the city. To get an idea of the growth of business in Dallas, businesses produced an estimated Gross Area Product of $310 billion in 1999. Currently, there are 150,000 businesses in the Dallas area and 6,000 corporate headquarters. In addition, eight of the nation’s largest public firms are headquartered in Dallas. Dallas is also known for being one of the largest high technology employment centers in the nation thus the nickname “Silicon Prairie”. The Telecom Corridor is composed of 600 high tech companies making it the largest concentration of telecommunications companies in the United States.
Transportation
Dallas is located in the center of the United States
which makes it an ideal location for businesses. The
city is equally close tofive of the largest business
centers in North America which include New York, Los
Angeles, Mexico City and Toronto. Transportation to
and from these cities can be made at the Dallas/Fort
Worth International Airport which is the world’s
third busiest airport. The airport is served by 9
international and 21 domestic airlines including DFW
based American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. For
businessmen traveling to downtown Dallas, the Dallas
Love Field is conveniently located three miles from
the downtown area. The direct flight time from Dallas
to any city in the United States is estimated to be
four hours or less. Commute time in the city is efficient
as well with an average of 24 minutes in the Dallas
area. If you want to avoid rush hour traffic, you
can ride the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) which
provides a network covering the city itself and thirteen
surrounding suburban communities.

Park Cities, nicknamed “the bubble”,
is made up of two cities named Highland Park and University
Park only seven minutes away from downtown Dallas.
Park Cities is bounded on the east by the Central
Expressway US-75 and on the west by the Dallas North
Tollway. Preston Road runs north and south through
the middle of these two communities. This small town
community has a population of 33,300. The Park Cities
residents generally have a higher average income as
compared to nearby residents as well as their own
independent government and public services hence the
nickname. The median household income for Highland
